Doctors
DR HELEN GADSDEN
MBBS, DFSRH
Dr Helen Gadsden qualified from St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College in 2001 and completed her GP training in Poole. She moved to the Portsmouth area in 2009 with her husband and was a partner at a practice in Waterlooville for 6 years before joining PGP in 2015. She works mainly at Cosham Park House and has interests in women's health and family planning. She spends her time outside work with her young family and enjoys running and gardening.
DR JAYESH GOHIL
MBBS London, BSc, DRCOG, DFFP, Dip Occ Med
Dr Jayesh Gohil qualified from St Thomas' Hospital, London in 1992. He joined Portsdown Group Practice in 1996. His main interests include dermatology, occupational medicine, minor surgery and aesthetic medicine. He enjoys walking and gardening and spending time with his young family.
DR PETER KIPGEN
MBBS, MRCGP
Dr Kipgen qualified from Barts and the London Medical School in 2006 (MBBS). He completed his GP training in Dorset in 2015 (MRCGP). He has a broad range of experience gained from hospital posts earlier in his career; these include paediatrics, sexual health, orthopaedics and emergency medicine. In his spare time he enjoys hill-walking and is a keen amateur chef. He also enjoys playing and watching sport especially rugby and football.
DR KAREN KYD
MA MB Camb, BChir, MRCP, DCH, MRCGP
Karen qualified in 1991 and has worked at Cosham Park House since 1998. Her specialist field is cardiology and Diabetes.
DR KO KO LAING
MBBS, DTM&H, DGM, MRCGP
Dr Ko Ko Laing qualified in 1989, his previous surgery in Victory Road merged with the Portsdown Group in April 2010. He is a highly experienced GP, is based in Kingston Crescent Surgery he has a number of special interest which includes medicine, rheumatology and joint injections. He is a keen tennis player and also enjoys travel.
DR PHILIP MONNERY
Dr Philip Monnery qualified from ST George’s Hospital Medical School in 1991, Undertaking a career in the Royal Air force. Initially undertaking surgical training and specialising in Ear, Nose and Throat he became a consultant in the Military in 2006. A change in life goals meant a change to general practice in 2009. He joined Portsdown Group Practice in 2015 and maintains his special interest in ENT and is responsible for the Portsdown Travel Clinic. He is married to Alison and has three children who keep them both very busy. He likes nothing better than to relax in the garden and is frequently seen with either a chainsaw or an axe, what could go wrong!?
DR DAVID MOSLEY
MA MBBS MRCGP Initially trained in London as a mature student before moving to the south coast 10 years ago, training at Queen Alexandra Hospital and eventually joining Portsdown Group Practice. Has a special interest in mental health. Has two young daughters and enjoys spending most of his free time with his family.
DR ANDREW PLANE
BSc, MBBS, DRCOG, DGM, DCH, MRCGP
Dr Andrew Plane studied for a degree in physiology (1980) before qualifying in medicine in 1986 at University College London. He has a particular interest in elderly medicine, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Outside work he is particularly interested in regular exercise and a healthy diet. He also likes to play the piano, gardening and spending time with his family. He likes music from all genres and is very keen on going to various gigs and festivals. He is an avid reader and goes to regular book club meetings.
DR ANDREW OZZARD
MBBS, MRCPCH, DCH, DFSRH, MRCGP
Dr Andrew Ozzard qualified from Guy’s and St Thomas’ medical school in 1998. He spent the next 10 years working in and around London before moving his growing family back towards the south coast in 2009 on taking up a partnership at the practice. He is based mainly in Cosham but can pop up anywhere at any time. When not at work he enjoys spending time with his children, the gym, travelling and gardening….though not always in that order!
DR LIZ SHEPHERD
BM Soton, DRCOG, DFFP, DCH, MRCGP
Dr Shepherd qualified in 1996 and worked at Crookhorn Lane Surgery from 2001 until 2014, when she moved down to Somerstown to join the clinical team there. She specialises in women’s health and family planning, she is also a GP trainer. Dr Shepherd spends most of her time with her young family enjoys keeping fit, cycling and running regularly, as well as being a green belt in Tae Kwando.
DR LUCY STRADLING
MBBS, MRCP, RCGP
Dr Lucy Stradling qualified in 2007 and joined the practice in 2014 after completing GP training in Portsmouth. She now works at the Somerstown surgery and aso does some shifts at QAH. When not working Lucy enjoy walking, swimming and has recently learnt to knit!
DR ANDREW WHITTAMORE
BM Soton, DRCOG, DFFP, MRCGP
Dr Andy Whittamore qualified from Southampton University Medical School in 2000. First coming to the practice in 2003, he completed his GP training and joined Portsdown as one of the Partners at Crookhorn Lane. He specialises in Respiratory disease and works for 2 days per week for Asthma UK as their Clinical Lead. He enjoys spending time with his family, walking their dog and travelling when possible.
DR SARAH SWINDELLS
BMBS Nottingham, MRCPCH, DRCOG, MRCGP, DFSRH
BMBS Nottingham, MRCPCH, DRCOG, MRCGP, DFSRH Dr Sarah Swindells qualified in 2004 and after a period of time in Derby and the Peak District, she joined the Portsdown Group as a salaried GP in 2010, she later became a Partner in the practice in June 2015. Sarah works at the Cosham and Paulsgrove surgeries. Dr Swindells is also a trainer. She has a particular fondness for shoes.
DR EBADUR CHOWDHURY
MBBS, MRCGP Trained in the north east of England. He joined Portsdown group in 2019. He has special interest in Minor Surgery, Joint Injections and Diabetes. He enjoys spending times with his young family and Travelling.
DR SHAMILIA SOMASUNDRAM
BMedSci (Hons), BMBS (UK) 2007, MRCGP 2012, DFSRH, CME 2013 Graduated from University of Nottingham in 2007, completed GP training in 2012 and worked in East Midlands area for a number of years. Also qualified to become GP Trainer in 2013 due to her passion for teaching. I also have special interest in Women’s Health. When she is not at work – most of her time is spent with her husband travelling and they both enjoy a good hike !
DR SIMON DONHOU
BM EM Cert. (ACEM) GP Cert. (Derm) DCH FRACGP Dr Donhou graduated from Southampton University in 2009. He worked at Queen Alexandra hospital for 2 years before moving to the Gold Coast of Australia. There, he worked in Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics and Intensive Care Medicine. He specialised as a GP in 2016 and has special interests in both dermatology and paediatrics. He enjoys cycling, triathlons and football, but mostly loves spending quality time with his wife and child. He’d also be lying if he said he didn’t miss the Aussie weather! Dr Donhou became a partner at Portsdown Group Practice in August 2021.

Nurse Practitioners
TINA CAIZLEY
Tina has worked for the practice since October 2016 after working at Queen Alexander Hospital for the past 13 years, during that time she has worked as a senior sister on the medical assessment unit and ambulatory clinic as a nurse specialist. She is currently working towards her master‘s in nurse practitioning.
LAURA HUGHES
From the age of 18 I worked as a Health care assistant and was fortunate to be seconded to undertake my nursing qualification with the Open University where I graduated in 2011. Since than I have worked at Queen Alexandra Hospital on a trauma orthopaedics ward as a staff nurse and ward sister nursing elderly hip fracture patients and then transferred into Queen Alexandra hospitals accident and emergency department and minor injuries unit at Gosport. Due to wishing to obtain more experience in primary care I moved into a role with Solent NHS Portsmouth working as a community matron supporting patients in their own home with long term conditions and palliative illnesses . From September 2019 I have worked as a Nurse practitioner with Portsdown group Practice and have clinics across all sites, I have a particular interest in mental health and palliative care I hold a non –medical independent prescribing qualification. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and 6 cats.
DAWN MARTIN
Dawn rejoined the practice in 2020 following the closure of the Hanway Group. She completed her nurse training at St Richard's hospital in 1986 and went on to do additional training at Brighton University. Dawn spent several years working in the community before deciding that Gp practice was her calling. In 2009 she became an independent nurse presciber and has worked as a nurse practitioner in the duty clinics ever since. Her main areas of interest are acute care and women's and children's health. Outside of work Dawn spends the majority of her time with her two Boxer dogs and works hard to support various Boxer rescue organisations. She also enjoys quiz games and writing novels. Her first novel was published in 2017 and the second in 2019.
YVONNE MOFFATT
Yvonne moved to Portsmouth in 2013 and joined as a staff nurse at Queen Alexandra Emergency department. Before this she worked and trained as a Children’s Nurse in London in a mixture of settings from community nursing to eating disorders at Rhodes Farm. She worked in the emergency department for 6 years before exploring other sectors such as CAMHS and private healthcare before she joined Portsdown Group Practice in 2020. Her key speciality is children but she enjoys the variety that primary healthcare brings.

Paramedic Practitioners
ADAM TAYLOR
Adam Joined the practice in 2019 after 4 years as a Senior Practitioner and Clinical Lead for Resuscitation at St Mary’s NHS Urgent Treatment Centre. Alongside this he also worked for the local out of hours service. He previously worked as a Paramedic for the local NHS Ambulance Service. Adam trained locally in Portsmouth in 2009 and then went onto complete his Specialist Practitioner training in Oxford in 2015. He then went onto further training in Paediatrics and Independent Prescribing in Bristol in 2018. Adam has a special interest in Acute Medicine, Dermatology including Dermoscopy which is used to pick up certain forms of skin cancer as well as Joint and Soft Tissue Injections. Adam loves dogs and can often be found out walking in the countryside.
MALCOLM SILVESTER
I worked for South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) since 1988 and Qualified as a Paramedic in 1991, worked at various locations including Basingstoke, Havant, Portsmouth and Southampton Stations, Worked as a Part time Lecturer for Southdowns college from 1996 to 2009 and also lectured for the Ambulance service. Qualified as an Emergency Care Practitioner (Specialist Paramedic) in 2009. Worked on the clinical Supports desk for SCAS for 2 years and then back on the Road as a Specialist Paramedic Mentor until 2016 when I joined Portsdown Group Practice as a Paramedic Practitioner.
CARL HUDGHTON
Carl joined the practice in 2019 having previously worked at St Mary’s urgent treatment centre for 2 ½ years. Prior to this Carl has worked in various clinical posts including South Central Ambulance Service, The Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the British Army. Carl qualified as a Paramedic in 2011 from the University of Portsmouth before going on to specialise in urgent care at St. Georges University of London and the University of the West of England where he was one of the first cohorts of Paramedics to complete Independent Prescribing. Carl has a special interest in acute medicine as well as cardiovascular disease and mental health.

Clinical Pharmacists
JOMY MAPPANALIL
MPharm, Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice Secondary Care, Independent Prescriber. Jomy graduated with MPharm from the University of Portsmouth in 2012 and went on for a pre-registration at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth followed by a career in secondary care as a clinical pharmacist for six and a half years. She undertook her Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice followed by Independent Prescribing from the University of Bath. Jomy joined the practice as a Senior Clinical Pharmacist in May 2019 and has a special interest in cardiology. Jomy currently runs AF and Heart failure clinics alongside her routine pharmacist clinics which focus on clinical medication reviews, polypharmacy, opiate optimisation, respiratory, HRT, mental health, diabetes etc. She is also working towards her further education in clinical pharmacy practice and management. When not at work she is a fulltime homemaker and enjoys travelling and spending quality time with her young family.
SUKHJEET POWAR
Suki has been a pharmacist for a while, starting in community and then migrating over to surgery. He loves to support as best he can and optimise treatment in many therapy areas e.g. diabetes, cardiology, dermatology, HRT, respiratory. In his spare time he works some more in the form of studying and loves taking time out with family & friends.

GP REGISTRARS
Our Registrars are fully-qualified Doctors who have chosen General Practice as the career they wish to pursue. They spend one year with us and are closely supervised by Doctors to ensure that they are able to provide care of the same standard as that provided by your Doctor.
FOUNDATION YEAR DOCTORS
As part of our training commitment, we also have “FY2” Doctors in our surgeries. These Doctors are not yet fully qualified and join us typically for 3 months as part of their training rotation.
MEDICAL STUDENTS
We also teach medical students. A medical student may be present while you are having a consultation with your Doctor. You will always be told if a student is going to be present. If you wish to see the Doctor alone, please tell the receptionists and nobody will take offence!
