What is Occupational Health?

Occupational Health actively promotes and maintains good health in the workplace, ensures legal compliance and supports employers and employees when health problems occur. Investing in the health of your employees will make that difference. Making Occupational Health a core function of your business recognises your corporate and social responsibilities, as well as potentially making big cost savings in relation to staff sickness.

The benefits are:

  • Improved staff motivation and performance
  • Improved staff attendance
  • Increased productivity and profitability
  • Reduction in Sickness absence levels
  • Reduced risk and cost of litigation

Pre-employment assessments

The recruitment and retention of employees is the key to the ongoing success and development of any business. Making pre-employment assessments part of the recruitment process demonstrates an early commitment to the health of your employees. This, in turn, benefits the new recruit and the business in both the short and the long term.

The benefits are:

  • Informed recruitment
  • Baseline Health Measurement
  • Compliance with current DDA
  • Reduced risk of sickness absence
  • Increased profitability

We can provide pre-employment assessment using a medical questionnaire together with screening from our dedicated nurses and physicians.

Sickness Absence Management

Sickness absence management is of key importance in every workplace as the impact of absence has a damaging effect on your business. Your occupational health service will help manage any absence proactively and effectively. As experience Occupational Health professionals, we understand the implications of reduced productivity caused by long term sickness absence, but we also understand the impact of DDA. We will help and support a robust sickness absence policy to ensure that the employee returns back to work as efficiently and as safely as possible.

The benefits are:

  • Cost savings and reduction in short and long term absences
  • Improved staff morale
  • Legal compliance
  • Increased productivity
  • Increased profits

Workplace Vaccinations

At work, we are all subject to risks, many of which can be minimised by protecting your workforce through a vaccination programme. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Management of Health and Safety at work regulations of 1999, an employer has a legal obligation to protect the health of their employees. Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Act (2002) the employer has a legal duty to assess the risk of infection for employees and others affected by your work. If a risk is known, the employer needs to take suitable precautions, which may include vaccination. Our range of available vaccinations include

  • Typhoid
  • Revaxis (Polio, Tetanus and Diphtheria)
  • BCG
  • Varicella
  • Measles, Mumps & Rubella
  • Hepatits B (Full Course)
  • Hepatitis B Booster
  • Hepatitis A

We are also able to offer seasonal flu vaccinations at your workplace.

Prices for all vaccines are available on request.

Health Surveillance

Health Surveillance is a systematic process to detect early signs of work related ill-health in employees exposed to certain health risks. It is usually required through legislation. Health surveillance can include:

  • Audiometry
  • Skin examination
  • HAVS
  • Statutory medicals

In addition to all the above, we understand and are able to help you with “Fit for Task” assessments – helping your staff to get back to work following a sickness absence. We can also carry out ergonomic assessments to gauge the likely impact of a work task on an employee. Further details are available on request.

Occupational Health Pricing

Our primary aim is to work with you and agree a long term, annual contract to supply you with all your occupational health needs. This will allow us to build a proper and personal relationship with your staff and management team. We recognise, however, that in some instances, this may not be appropriate, in which case we offer ad hoc prices as follows:

Sickness Certificates

For the first seven days lost through illness you do not need a certificate from your Doctor. This period is covered by the SC1 form available from your employer.  If your employer doesn’t have its own form your can download this Self Certification Form (PDF).

You need to see the Doctor if the absence is for longer, or if your employer requires a private certificate, for which there is a small charge.
